What restorative actually is

Not a slower class. A different practice.

  • You hold a small number of fully supported postures, for a long time.
  • Props do the work, so the body can stop working.
  • No strength, no sweat, no performance — the point is to actually rest.

In a restorative practice, students hold fully supported postures for extended periods, using props to remove effort from the body completely. It isn't about building strength or moving through a flow — it's about giving the nervous system the conditions it needs to recover.

The goal isn't to work your body. It's to let it stop working so hard, for once.

Full support, no effort: the setup is the teaching.

Why this training, and why now

Restorative has gone from niche to essential.

As demand grows for classes that help students genuinely rest, studios need teachers who understand the practice rather than imitate its pace.

  1. 1

    From niche to essential

Restorative has become one of the fastest-growing, most in-demand styles in modern yoga. Studios need teachers who can hold a room in genuine rest — not a slow flow with a bolster in it.

  2. 2

    Built on nervous-system science

You'll learn what is actually happening in the body during a supported pose: the sympathetic and parasympathetic states, and why an uninterrupted invitation into rest-and-digest is where repair happens.

  3. 3

    Depth, not props-and-blankets

Serious students welcome. This training is built for practitioners and teachers ready to go deep — it is not a casual introduction to props and blankets.

Inside the training · syllabus

Eight areas, across fifteen live hours.

The weekend moves from why the practice works, through how to set it up, to leading a full class of your own.

  1. 01

    Philosophy & tradition

Where restorative practice comes from, and the lineage of thinking behind supported, long-held rest — so you teach it as a tradition with reasoning behind it, not a set of shapes.

  2. 02

    Nervous system science

The sympathetic and parasympathetic states, and what's actually happening in the body during a restorative pose. Why most of daily life keeps a student tilted toward fight-or-flight, and how a supported posture invites the shift.

  3. 03

    The role of props

How props enable full physical support — the difference between a prop that props and a prop that truly removes effort from the body. Bolsters, blankets, blocks, and how to improvise when a student has none.

  4. 04

The 5 pillars of restorative yoga

The five principles that separate a genuinely restorative pose from a merely comfortable one, and how to test any setup against them.

  5. 05

    Categories & class structure

The categories of restorative pose, and how a full class is shaped — what opens it, what belongs in the middle, and how rest is arrived at rather than announced.

  6. 06

    A complete pose library

Every major category, with setup, timing, and teaching cues for each pose. The practical core of the training, and the reference you'll teach from afterward.

  7. 07

    Contraindications & scope of practice

When a pose is wrong for the body in front of you, how to adapt it, and where a yoga teacher's scope ends. The part that keeps your students safe and your teaching honest.

  8. 08

Sequencing & leading a full class

Putting it together: how to sequence and lead a complete restorative class, in person or online — pacing, language, silence, and holding a room that is asked to do nothing.
